We’re Your Middle TN Home Geeks
“We’ve been in homes, on homes, and under homes for 14+ years — that’s more than 4,000 homes’ worth of experience.”
— Greg Johns, owner
Who is this handsome fellow, you say? Well…I can’t give away any surprises, buuuuuuttttt…
Meet The Owner:
Greg Johns has lived in Cookeville, TN, for more than fourteen years now. For the bulk of that time, he was a licensed home inspector. Over the years, he developed the reputation by many local Real Estate agents and builders of being “too picky,” “very detailed oriented,” “a risk for my properties,” “a deal killer,” among many other less palatable and professional references. Yet, his clients loved his reports filled with details that afforded for good decision-making when it came to home buying and the value of one’s almighty dollar.
At some point, tired of the “behind-closed-doors” Cookeville business culture that cripples consumer protection, as well as the jackassory that seemed to pervade several of the larger local brokerages, Greg decided to start down a different path. This path was to further complicate life in hopes of better understanding homes, better helping clients, and putting naysayers in their proper places. This path, over several years, led him to building science and home diagnostics. Verifiable testing (data), and a keen eye toward aiding home owners in making decisions that could yield better performance in their homes and better value for their money. And thus, TNergy Services was born and designed to focus gained industry-leading skills and certifications toward testing, diagnosing, and communicating ideal change to home owners in hopes of gaining control over their homes, their health, and their money.
Today, TNergy Services works with clients who are in the process of building homes — many over the $1 million dollar mark; select builders who see the value in having a de-facto researcher, communicator, and building science geek in their phone; and homeowners/renters trying to solve issues/questions with their homes. This, of course, has naturally extended to commercial buildings, too.
As for Greg , he enjoys cartoons, coffee, his family, constantly killing grass to grow flowers and native species, comics, and CrossFit. He’s not an expert at any of these, but that hasn’t stopped him yet.
Well Credentialed:

Zip System Tape Improperly Installed on Exterior Sheathing
Why Does IT Matter
Our homes are where we spend a large amount of our time — like up to 80%. We should have a better understanding of our homes, particularly the indoor environment and how it interacts with the exterior environment.
Our homes should be fully controllable environments, yet most of us live in structures that share space with the outdoors inside our homes with no control over it at all. TNergy Services tests to verify how much outside we are sharing inside which can help assess how best to spend money to make your home “feel” better, perform better, and be more durable against the elements and time.
Air Leakage on An Exterior Wall at A Receptacle Outlet During a Blower Door Test
Who Would Use Such A Service?
Ideally, every home owner. New homes should be tested for ACH50 (blower door) and duct leakage. Existing homes should be tested to determine how much air leakage is occurring at the interior enclosure and HVAC duct work.
Local builders, too. Testing your homes can provide verifiable data to determine if your building practices are meh, average, or pretty darn good for our non-home performance minded region.
Local government officials. Maintenance is costly. Wouldn’t it be nice to spend money addressing the actual root of an issue, as opposed to spending money time and again on the same issue?
Renters, even. Having issues you can’t figure out? We can help which can help you (hopefully) exact change from your landlord, or provide you verifiable information for any other necessary modes of recourse.
